How to Identify Real 925 Sterling Silver Jewellery

May 13, 20265 min read

With the rising popularity of silver jewellery, there are many plated fakes and brass alloys circulating in the market. Knowing how to verify the authenticity of your Sterling Silver 925 is important to ensure you get what you pay for.

1. Check for the Hallmark Stamp

Genuine sterling silver is almost always stamped with a hallmark of authenticity. Look for markings like '925', 'S925', 'Sterling', or 'Ster'. On rings, this stamp is typically on the inside band; on necklaces, it is near the clasp.

2. The Magnet Test

Silver is non-magnetic. If you hold a strong magnet near the piece and it sticks firmly, it is likely made of steel or iron with a thin silver plating rather than genuine solid sterling silver.
